I have just received notice that the Department of Transportation is agreeing to add an auxiliary lane along Southbound Stoughton Road from the Cottage Grove Road entrance ramp to the Buckeye Road intersection. This project is scheduled for construction in the Summer of 2008 and is a spot improvement project that is part of the larger Stoughton Road corridor study currently being conducted by WisDOT.

The project will consist of widening the existing roadbed to include one new auxiliary lane of pavement beginning at the taper of the existing Cottage Grove Road interchange entrance ramp and ending at the taper of the right-turn lane at Buckeye Road. The ditch line will be pushed to the West as needed and existing culvert pipes extended to the new ditch line. The auxiliary lane profile will match the profile of the existing edge of pavement.

I will be attending a meeting on Thursday, June 7 with WisDOT to see the overall design of the project.

As you know, this interchange has the highest crash rate in our district, and actually along the entire corridor with the exception of Hwy 15 and Stoughton Road. This major safety issue has been a problem long before I became the alder, and I am glad to be able to let you know that finally we are getting something done to alleviate some of the threat to motorists at this interchange. I am glad that we won't have to wait until the entire project begins to get this much needed help.

Many of you have been contacting me and helping to keep the need for this project at the forefront. Thank you, this is an example of how we, working together, can get things done.

I have made Fred Arnold, the president of SRRP aware of this change to the corridor, and he is contacting Cunningham, the firm working on the design for the revitalization of the corridor.

I will contact you again after the meeting. If you have questions please don't hesitate to call or email me.

One small victory--the rest is yet to come!
